Starbucks India names TBWALintas creative AOR

Starbucks India has appointed TBWA\Lintas as its creative agency of record after a competitive multi-agency pitch. The Omnicom Advertising India agency now leads the coffee brand’s integrated creative and digital communications, spanning brand campaigns, social media, digital activations and consumer participation.

01 · One agency across brand and digital

The appointment consolidates the brand’s mainline creative and digital duties under a single AOR. For a brand built on the in-store experience, the structure matters: it lets the same strategic and creative team shape how the brand sounds on a billboard, in a feed and inside an activation.

  • Brand campaigns and advertising
  • Social media and always-on content
  • Digital activations and consumer participation programmes

02 · The brief is local relevance

Mitali Maheshwari, Head of Product and Marketing at TATA Starbucks, said the brand has spent 14 years helping shape India’s coffee culture and sees an opportunity to deepen connections through ‘locally relevant, digital and experiential storytelling’ as its consumer base grows. She framed the ambition in neighbourhood terms: building brand love one person, one cup and one neighbourhood at a time.

The most exciting brands today don’t just show up in culture. They give people something to do with them.

— Russell Barrett, Chief Creative Experience Officer, TBWA\Lintas

Barrett’s point is the strategic centre of the appointment. Younger consumers, he said, don’t just consume culture; they create it. That shifts the agency’s job from making ads for Starbucks to designing ideas that invite participation and travel beyond the cup.

03 · What brand leaders should watch

Starbucks India’s move is a signal for global brands building in India. As the coffee market grows crowded, consistency between brand campaigns and digital storytelling becomes a competitive asset. The appointment also raises the bar: the next work will be judged less on reach alone and more on whether consumers treat the brand as something they join, remix and share.

One-line marketing take: When a global brand hands one agency the full creative and digital mandate, it is betting on culture, not just consistency.
