~ Flipkart drops a Play-tab Drama feed inside the shopping app — short-form shows with Anupam Kher, Rasika Dugal and Mandira Bedi as content-commerce gets another festive lever ~
Mumbai, September 2026: Flipkart has quietly put microdrama on the same home screen as carts and categories. A new Play tab in the main ecommerce app now splits into Explore (creator content) and Drama (scripted short-form shows), giving shoppers something to watch in the gaps between browsing and checkout — and giving the Walmart-owned marketplace another reason to keep Gen Z inside the Flipkart universe ahead of the festive rush.
The Drama shelf is already behaving like a mini streamer: rows such as Must watch, Today’s top pick for you, Recommended Favourites and Continue Watching surface titles including CEO Se Romeo, Contract Marriage, Boss Bahu, Ek Ladki Do Insaan, Elayichi, KHEER, Mr Aditi, Nakli Pati Asli Crorepati and Ishq Ibadat. Episodes run in the one-to-three-minute band, with performances from names such as Anupam Kher, Rasika Dugal and Mandira Bedi featured in Flipkart’s own launch creatives.
Content partners, not a new app
Reports say Flipkart is working with Terribly Tiny Tales (TTT) and Nexus Venture Partners-backed Pratilipi (including Pratilipi’s Double Tap Films studio) for exclusive microdramas, with content from Pinkvilla majority-acquired by Flipkart in 2025 — also in the mix. Critically, there is no separate Flipkart drama app: the feed lives inside the shopping client shoppers already open daily.
That choice is the strategy. India’s microdrama category was valued around 650 crore in 2025 and is projected to climb toward ₹2,320 crore by 2028 (FICCI–EY), with specialists such as Kuku TV, ShareChat’s Quick TV, EloElo’s StoryTV and Dashverse already in the fight — while ZEE5, Amazon Prime Video and JioHotstar have also layered microdrama into their stacks. Flipkart’s bet is attention-to-commerce: more minutes in-app, richer recommendation surface, and a future path for brand integrations and product placement rather than a standalone entertainment P&L.
Engagement first, buy buttons later
The commercial logic is familiar from Flipkarts wider content push. Short episodes can fill the dead air between wishlist and wallet; Flipkart’s existing recsys can seed shows without a separate discovery habit; and the Play entry sits next to Home, Categories, Account and Cart — a one-tap detour that still ends on a shopping chrome. Whether a “buy” CTA ever lands inside a cliffhanger is the watchpoint marketers will track into the festive window. For now, the message on-screen is blunt enough: open Flipkart, tap Play, and the Drama feed is live.
