Chennai Metro FD Ad Flops — ‘Girlfriend May Give 0% Interest’ Draws DMK MP Fire

Chennai, September 2026: A fixed-deposit push for THECOS (Thiruvalluvar Transport Corporation Employee’s Co-operative Credit Society Ltd / TTCECS) has turned into a public-transport advertising row after the creative landed inside a Chennai Metro coach with a line that a “girlfriend may give 0 per cent interest.”

The spot was meant to contrast weak romantic “returns” with the society’s FD rates. Instead, it became a dignity flashpoint. DMK MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian shared a photo of the ad on X, arguing that public-space advertising must not treat women as punchlines — and that messaging which “degrades women and portrays them as objects” has no place on a metro used by lakhs of riders every day.

She put the heat on the Chennai Metro Rail administration for clearing the creative, asking how such copy was allowed on board, and called for immediate removal plus tighter checks so similar ads do not return.

THECOS positions itself as a financial institution serving transport employees across Tamil Nadu. That co-op brief did not survive the transit context: once the line sat opposite daily commuters — not just a targeted employee feed — the “clever” FD metaphor read as cheap gendered bait.

Marketing take

Transit media is not a private meme wall. If your FD hook needs a girlfriend at 0%, the risk is not just a takedown request — it is brand safety failure in the most public inventory you can buy.
