Why South India needs its own influencer strategy
South India needs more than influencer execution. The InterMentalist argues brands pay a hidden cost when regional campaigns skip strategy.

South India has become a serious influencer-marketing battleground for FMCG, beauty, technology, fashion and D2C brands. Yet the same flaw keeps showing up: brands treat the region as another place to run campaigns, not as a market that needs its own strategy, expertise and long-term commitment.
As the founder and CEO of The InterMentalist puts it, “South India is a market to build, and not just a campaign to execute.” That distinction is the difference between local relevance and another report with no business impact.
01 · Execution is not acceptance
A campaign can hit every deadline, get creators posting and still fail to build recall or trust. Views and engagement do not automatically become consideration or purchase intent. For a brand that is strong in North, West or East India, or internationally, that reputation does not transfer automatically. Being national is not the same as being locally relevant.
Audience acceptance takes time. Language, cultural reference points and buying behaviour shift across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana—and even within a single state. Brands that expect overnight results are often paying to learn a lesson the market already teaches.
02 · The real gap is the partner
Many teams find regional help through a LinkedIn post, a WhatsApp group asking for influencer contacts, or an industry recommendation. That can produce creators, but it does not prove the partner understands why a particular creator moves a particular audience, how messaging should be adapted, or how local performance should be read.
The sharper question is not “Can this agency execute our South India campaign?” but “Can this agency help us understand, enter and grow sustainably?” A creator list and a completed checklist cannot replace regional strategy.
03 · What to change before the next campaign
- Evaluate regional partners on demonstrated experience, audience insight and the strategy behind their recommendations—not just contacts.
- Adapt messaging by state, language and category; Tamil Nadu is not Kerala, and Karnataka is not Andhra Pradesh or Telangana.
- Plan beyond individual campaigns and measure trust, consideration and brand recall, not only views and deliverables.
04 · The hidden cost
The real price of getting South India influencer marketing wrong is not just wasted spend. It is the market that was open to your brand, could have grown with it, but was never given a strong enough reason.
For CMOs, the decision is therefore not whether to invest in South India. It is whether the investment is being made in the right way.
