India, October 2026: OnePlus India has rolled out the third edition of its festive campaign #MakeItSpecial, this time built around a generational Diwali — traditional house rituals on one side, digital-first celebration on the other, and a shared room in between.

Conceptualised in-house, the film opens with an elderly couple whose Diwali looks familiar: décor up, diyas lit, sweets laid out — then quiet once guests leave. A video call from their grandchildren, played by creator duo Vishnu Kaushal and Govind Kaushal, flashes dance challenges, game nights and music. Indian women’s cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana walks in, films a Diwali dance challenge led by choreographer Nicole Concessao on the OnePlus 15, and pulls the grandparents into the frame while a playlist runs off the OnePlus Pad 4.

The story keeps tradition in the shot — diyas re-lit, kaju katlis passed, rangoli with a modern twist — and closes on festive gifting from the OnePlus ecosystem: OnePlus N6, Nord 6, Nord CE6 and Nord Buds. Beyond the film, OnePlus has partnered with Marzi, a community for people aged 50+, for month-long intergenerational events (pickleball, board games, pizza workshops, coffee raves), with public registrations slated after October 10. The brand’s Diwali Festive Sale across smartphones and IoT is set to open October 8, 2026.

Ishita Grover, Director – Marketing, OnePlus India, said: “Over time, generations have started celebrating in their own ways, often apart from each other. The campaign brings them together, not by asking one to become the other, but by helping each discover how the other celebrates. … We believe the most memorable moments are the ones where traditions and trends come together, and where technology strengthens human connections rather than replacing them.”

Smriti Mandhana added: “Festivals like Diwali are about the people around you, and OnePlus India’s #MakeItSpecial campaign captures that beautifully. It was so much fun to be part of a film that gets generations celebrating together.” The film is live across YouTube, Instagram and X through the festive season.

Marketing take: Festive tech ads often sell discount ladders. OnePlus sold a room where grandparents and Gen Z keep their rituals — and still dance in the same frame.
