~ EssenceMediacom’s Gurjot Shah Singh flags KFC’s ChatGPT ads as live — first QSR on the platform, pitched as presence at the moment of food intent ~
Mumbai, September 2026: KFC India has gone live with paid advertising on ChatGPT, becoming the first quick-service restaurant (QSR) brand on the AI platform in India — a bet that “what to order tonight” is moving from the search bar into the conversation itself.
The news landed via Gurjot Shah Singh, SVP at EssenceMediacom, who said the first KFC ads are already running and framed the buy as more than a media stunt: “from the search bar to the conversation,” with food decisions traditionally shaped by talk around what to order and what sounds good tonight. His line on the moment: “Now we are a part of that conversation itself. Not an interruption. A natural presence at the exact moment intent is formed.”
KFC joins early India testers including Mamaearth (via Criteo) and Sebamed (via WPP Media). OpenAI’s India rollout is targeting Free and Go users, with more than 50 brands expected in the initial wave and a local self-serve Ads Manager now open for campaign build and measurement.
Singh cast the placement as historic territory — first TV, first Google, now first ads of the “post-search era” — and asked the industry to watch how discovery rewires when the recommendation engine is also the chat.
Marketing take: QSR wins on impulse and proximity. Putting the bucket inside an AI chat is a test of whether conversational intent converts faster than a keyword — and whether users accept a sponsored nudge when they’re already deciding dinner.
