Josy Paul, 25+ Lions, takes BBDO Group India creative chair
BBDO Group India elevates Josy Paul to Chairman and Group CCO, uniting BBDO India, Ulka and Mudra under one creative vision and effectiveness record.

BBDO Group India has elevated Josy Paul to chairman and group chief creative officer, widening his remit from BBDO India to the full group of BBDO India, Ulka and Mudra. The group operates under Omnicom Advertising, and the move deepens the integration of its three creative agency brands.
01 · One creative chair, three agency brands
As group CCO, Paul will now set the creative vision across the network, not just at the flagship. The elevation pairs him with Jitender Dabas, who became CEO of BBDO Group India in February this year following the Omnicom-IPG merger. In effect, BBDO Group India now has a single CEO-CCO axis to shape the creative ambition and culture of all three agencies.
Dabas described Paul in forceful terms: “Josy is not just another creative luminary. He is an institution in himself and one of the tallest creative leaders I have worked with.” For clients, that is a signal about the kind of leadership the group wants to put in front of brands.
02 · The work behind the title
Paul’s reputation rests on campaigns that went beyond category conventions and into social questions. The source points to four that became global conversation starters:
- Ariel’s Share The Load, which made unequal household laundry a widely debated gender equality issue.
- Whisper’s Touch The Pickle, which confronted period taboos.
- Gillette’s Women Against Lazy Stubble, which pushed back on grooming double standards.
- Mirinda’s Release The Pressure, which addressed the mental stress teenagers face.
That body of work has collected more than 25 Cannes Lions, including a Grand Prix and multiple Golds. Share The Load was ranked the world’s most effective campaign by WARC twice in a row, making it a rare case of creative recognition and long-term business effectiveness travelling together.
03 · Why CMOs should pay attention
For brand leaders, an agency group consolidating creative leadership is more than an HR update. It changes how creative standards are set across accounts and merged brands. In practical terms, the announcement gives marketing teams a new question to ask: if one creative chair now steers three agencies, how will that influence the strategic and cultural sharpness of the work your brand receives?
“After all these years, I still feel like a beginner,” Paul said. “This new chapter at the BBDO Group India is a huge honour and a beautiful responsibility.” He framed the move as “creating a bigger room for creativity.”
The useful move for a client-side marketer is to treat this as a moment to re-interview your agency partners. Ask who sets the creative bar, how effectiveness is measured, and whether the next campaign will challenge a cultural norm or simply fill media space. In a market where long-running ideas such as Share The Load still set the benchmark, those questions matter.
