Flipkart Turns a Real Diwali Village Into a Deal Hunt
Flipkart and Leo India turn the real Punjab village of Diwali into a Street View-style game that unlocks Big Bang Diwali Sale offers.

Flipkart has found its festive hook in an actual place. The e-commerce giant and agency Leo India have launched ‘Diwali de Deals’, a campaign set in Diwali, a village in Punjab around 14 km from Jalandhar, to promote the Flipkart Big Bang Diwali Sale.
Rather than making a conventional film about discounts, the campaign builds a small world: a village named after the festival, a mystery over who is putting up sale posters, and an interactive way to shop the story.
01 · The village gets a plot
In the film, Flipkart sale posters appear across Diwali Gaon. The village sarpanch calls a panchayat to investigate where they have come from. The story introduces Dealpreet, a villager who wants to take the village’s festive spirit beyond its boundaries by sharing Flipkart’s deals with consumers across India.
That narrative turn is the key: the village is not merely a backdrop. It becomes the reason a national sale has local roots and an emotional centre.
02 · A Street View-style deal hunt
The campaign then extends to diwalidedeals.com, an interactive experience modelled on Google Street View. Consumers navigate through the village, search for deal posters that carry Punjabi wordplay, and capture them to unlock special offers before heading to Flipkart to shop.
Sachin Kamble, chief creative officer, Leo India, said, “The film brings the village to life, while the digital experience lets people step into it and find the deals for themselves.”
03 · Why it matters for brand leaders
Festive sale advertising in India tends to run on noise: bigger discounts, longer countdowns, louder films. Flipkart’s approach replaces passive watching with a small act of participation. To get an offer, a shopper must explore, spot and unlock it. That adds time with the brand and gives people a reason to remember where the deal came from.
The campaign also uses a real-world coincidence, the village named Diwali, as a creative device. That specificity makes the idea feel native to the festival rather than a generic sale skin.
04 · What marketers can borrow
- Turn a promotion into a discovery task. Give users a reason to explore instead of just reading a discount list.
- Use one true local detail. A real place name or cultural cue can carry the whole idea.
- Keep the transaction close. Every unlocked offer should send shoppers immediately to the product page or sale.
The loop from film to game to cart is what makes the campaign work as a performance asset, not only a brand film. As the Big Bang Diwali Sale heats up, the test will be whether the interactive layer converts curiosity into completed orders.
Marketing take
The best festive campaign is not the loudest sale announcement; it is the one people are willing to play.
