Bengaluru, September 2026: AI-native payments platform Cashfree has launched festive campaign ‘Mithai Joint Family’, starring comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath. Built around India’s most reliable Diwali gag — soan papdi that circulates through four homes without being eaten — the film argues that high payment success rates are table stakes, and that what sits beside them is what actually differentiates a gateway. The push is Cashfree’s first major communication under its new black-and-green identity, and anchors the brand’s Zero Payment Gateway Fees offer for new merchants’ first ₹20 lakh in sales.
In the film, Biswa holds the familiar small soan papdi box, then brings in the assorted mithai box he calls the mithai joint family — soan papdi respectfully parked in one corner beside everything people actually want. The parallel lands on payments: Cashfree positions itself as the fuller box, pairing success rates with a dedicated account manager, next-day settlements and go-live in minutes, all at zero gateway fees up to the festive threshold.
Aditi Olemann, Vice President of Marketing & Communications, Cashfree, said: “The soan papdi joke works because everybody has lived it. We all receive it during the festive season and accept it reluctantly. But we also know the feeling of receiving something genuinely better, like an assorted sweet box, and that contrast between the two emotions is exactly what we wanted to capture. Merchants face the same pattern when they assess payment gateways. They see higher success rates, assume that is the standard, and do not think to ask what else is in the box. We wanted to break that assumption in a way that did not feel like a boring B2B ad. Biswa was the natural choice. His dry humour works because he points out what everyone already knows but nobody has said out loud, and that is precisely how this message needed to land.”
Cashfree’s active SMB merchant base grew 50% year-on-year in FY26; the company now serves close to a million SMBs and aims to double that by end-FY27. The rebrand — a redesigned logo the company calls ‘the edge’ — mirrors its shift from pure gateway to a broader AI-native stack spanning Relay, Checkout360, SecureID and an Agentic Payments Stack, timed for the festive rush when payment cost hits smaller merchants hardest.
Marketing take: Cashfree didn’t sell features — it sold the feeling of getting a better box. By casting Biswa’s deadpan on a festive joke every merchant already knows, the brand turns a B2B fee waiver into cultural shorthand for ‘ask what else is in the box’ just as Diwali volumes climb.
