Bonjour’s Harshaali festive film makes gifting about next steps

Bonjour bets on emotional gifting, not discount-led festive work

Bonjour has taken an unusual route for festive advertising. Instead of leading with product close-ups and seasonal offers, the legacy socks and apparel brand has released a film starring actor Harshaali Malhotra that treats gifting as a way to mark one milestone and open the next.

01 · The idea

Built on the brand’s ‘ONTO THE NEXT’ philosophy, the campaign traces Malhotra’s shift from being recognised as a child actor to exploring new opportunities in her career. The narrative makes a simple point: an achievement is not the end of a story; it is the beginning of another ambition.

That message feeds Bonjour’s broader lens of the ‘Work-in-Progress Indian’ — a person who keeps evolving, setting new goals and moving forward across career, personal interests and entrepreneurial pursuits.

02 · Why it matters for brand leaders

Indian festive advertising is crowded with discounts, promo codes and product grids. By choosing emotional storytelling, Bonjour is trying to earn attention through relevance rather than price. The shift is strategically timed. The brand is stretching beyond its socks heritage into innerwear, apparel and everyday lifestyle essentials, and it needs a stronger emotional platform to support that wider portfolio.

Raj Kumar Jain, managing director of Zonac Knitting Machine Private Limited, framed the intent: ‘Every achievement brings a new ambition, and every milestone opens the door to another chapter.’ That line does the brand work — it turns a gifting product into a narrative about progress.

03 · What marketers can borrow

The campaign is a useful template for brands that want to move from product-led festive ads to philosophy-led work:

  • Anchor to a repeatable idea. ONTO THE NEXT can return each season, unlike a one-off product promotion.
  • Match the face to the message. Malhotra’s actual career transition makes the claim credible.
  • Use emotion to support expansion. The story does double duty: it sells gifting and reframes Bonjour as a lifestyle brand.

04 · The caution

The risk is familiar. Emotional festive films can earn sentiment without shifting purchase behaviour. Bonjour will need to track brand lift, category entry and sales, not just views and warmth. If the philosophy stays only in the film, it remains a positioning statement; if it travels into packaging, retail and CRM, it becomes a brand platform.

The marketing take: when the category shouts about offers, the brand that talks about progress earns the memory.
