~ HDFC Bank and Kinnect flip fraud urgency on its head — Vigil Aunty Turns “aalsi” into a seven-episode JioHotstar comedy special ~
Mumbai, September 2026: HDFC Bank has pushed its long-running Vigil Aunty fraud-awareness platform into stand-up territory. With agency Kinnect, the bank has launched “Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves” a seven-episode comedy special streaming exclusively on JioHotstar that argues the smartest move against a scammers fake deadline is sometimes to do nothing.
The insight is blunt: fraudsters thrive on panic. Suspicious links, OTP grabs and so-called digital-arrest threats are engineered to make people click first and think later. The series flips that playbook each episode leans on a familiar form of everyday aalsas, using humour to make pausing, checking and being “lazy feel like the cheat code for digital safety.
Comedy cast, unfinished billboard
The line-up packs India’s stand-up circuit into the brief: Aakash Gupta, Gaurav Kapoor, Ramkumar, Harsh Gujral, Sonu Venugopal, Munawar Faruqui and Kenny Sebastian, with Vigil Aunty (Anu Menon) anchoring the platform. Off-screen, the campaign also planted a deliberately unfinished OOH — a billboard that looks abandoned mid-install carrying the line “Laziness Has Spread Everywhere.”
Ravi Santhanam, chief marketing officer & group head, HDFC Bank, framed the bet as language, not lectures. “Fraudsters use panic and urgency to manipulate people into making quick mistakes. ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves’ intends to talk to audiences in a language they love – comedy. Vigil Aunty, along with India’s top stand-up comedians, will spread awareness on the modus operandi used by fraudsters. We are delighted to leverage the network of JioHotstar in this endevaour to reach a wide audience to share the message of staying alert while transacting on digital platforms.”
Chandni Shah, CEO, Kinnect, called it a format jump for a public-interest platform. “Vigil Aunty has demonstrated the power of building a sustained and culturally relevant platform around an important public-interest issue. With ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves, we saw an opportunity to take that platform into a completely new format, bringing together entertainment, education and popular culture. By turning fraud awareness into something people would actively choose to watch, the integrated campaign makes an important behavioural message more accessible to all.”
For a category drowning in fear ads, HDFC’s move is sharp: make laziness the hero, put comedians on the payroll, and stream the safety brief where India already watches for fun. The seven episodes are live on JioHotstar.
