India’s festive ad playbook: from visibility to intelligence
Haresh Nayak of Connect Network says data, agentic AI and hyperlocal insight—not just premium visibility—will decide which festive campaigns convert.

India’s festive season remains advertising’s biggest battleground, but a new opinion piece from Haresh Nayak, Founder & CEO of Connect Network Inc., argues that the old visibility-first playbook is no longer enough.
His core argument: being seen everywhere is not the same as being seen where it matters. For CMOs allocating festive budgets, that distinction changes what a media plan is supposed to do.
01 · From premium sites to consumer intelligence
Traditional festive planning leaned on premium locations, historical traffic patterns and established formats. Nayak points out that today’s shopper journey is more fragmented: a consumer can spot a brand on a highway billboard, research it online and buy from a neighbourhood store. Treating that as a simple impressions play misses the moments of influence in between.
The shift is toward what he describes as consumer intelligence—planning around location, mobility, demographics, retail catchments and actual behaviour, instead of defaulting to familiar high-traffic sites.
02 · AI is reworking the planning equation
Artificial intelligence is at the centre of the change. In the piece, AI-powered planning systems evaluate media locations not just by traffic or rental cost, but by their ability to reach relevant audiences and influence purchase journeys. The next stage is agentic AI, where systems move from reporting data to actively supporting decisions, planning, optimisation and execution.
Connect Network has built its Immersive platform around this idea, aiming to put media environments, audience intelligence and planning into one connected ecosystem.
03 · India is hyperlocal before it is national
Nayak’s strongest practical warning is that India does not shop uniformly. A campaign built for Mumbai may need a different shape in Lucknow, Coimbatore or a smaller emerging market. Hyperlocal intelligence becomes the bridge between national brand ambitions and local demand.
What an intelligence-led festive plan should combine
- Location intelligence and mobility patterns
- Demographic and behavioural insight
- Retail catchment and purchase-decision data
- Measurement tied to footfall or sales, not reach alone
04 · From impressions to business impact
The piece pushes accountability further: reach and impressions matter, but brands should ask whether the campaign reached the right audience, strengthened presence near priority retail locations, and contributed to consideration, footfall or sales. That demands better measurement and continuous optimisation—without letting technology replace creative and strategic judgement.
Nayak closes with a line worth pinning for the season: “visibility will create awareness, but intelligence will create advantage.” For India’s marketing leaders, the next festive winner may not be the biggest spender, but the most intelligent investor.
