Cadbury Celebrations turns neighbourly squabbles into Diwali gifting
Cadbury Celebrations uses everyday neighbour friction as its festive creative territory, pairing a short film with shoppable gift guides for Diwali.

For its Diwali push this year, Cadbury Celebrations is steering away from the usual big family table and looking next door. The Mondelez India gifting range has launched a campaign built around the small, everyday frictions between neighbours, and it positions its chocolate boxes as the gesture that resets those relationships.
01 · What the campaign shows
At the centre is a hero ad film and a short film titled The Neighbour. The films mine familiar residential conflict: parking spaces, shared walls and boundaries, pets, noise and games played in the building compound. Rather than escalating the disputes, the story turns on someone making the first move with a Cadbury Celebrations pack, letting the festive season convert friction into warmth.
Vinay Subramanyam, vice-president – marketing, Mondelez India, frames the festival as a moment of reconnection. “Diwali has always been a time to pause, reconnect and celebrate the people around us,” he said. “Our latest campaign tries to depict the beautiful and unique relationship that we Indians have with our neighbours.”
Sukesh Nayak, chief creative officer, Ogilvy India, added that the idea was to celebrate the playful quarrels and “how quickly they can melt into warmth when someone makes the first move.”
02 · Why neighbourly tension works
For marketers, the campaign is a useful example of festive advertising moving from grand set-piece moments into a smaller, highly recognisable relationship. The neighbour is a familiar cast member but not always the hero of Diwali storytelling. That gives Cadbury a distinct gifting occasion and a clear emotional job for the product.
- Relatable friction: parking, pets and noise feel true to close-quarter urban life.
- Product as resolution: the chocolate box becomes the olive branch, not just a gift.
- Built-in path to purchase: shoppable guides turn the story into a buying moment.
Shekhar Banerjee, president, client solutions, South Asia, WPP Media, said the media plan extends the idea through the creator ecosystem and “seamless, shoppable gift guides that make it effortless to pick a Cadbury Celebrations pack tailored to every unique moment and bond.”
03 · What marketers can borrow
The strategic lesson is in finding the small, recurring tension that a brand can credibly resolve. Cadbury Celebrations is not selling chocolates as a generic Diwali sweet; it is selling the moment when a neighbour chooses to be gracious. For gifting brands, the sharpest seasonal opportunity is often an unglamorous, daily relationship rather than a picture-perfect family scene.
Pair that insight with a frictionless commerce layer. The shoppable gift guides move the campaign from brand feeling to product selection, which matters when Diwali shelves are crowded and purchase decisions are made quickly.
The takeaway: Festive gifting gets sharper when the brand chooses one small, familiar relationship and shows the product as the gesture that repairs it.
