86% want protein: California Pistachios targets chai time

California Pistachios is taking aim at India’s most universal snacking ritual—chai time—with the latest edition of its “The Better Snack” campaign. The goal is to move pistachios out of festive tins and into the daily rhythm of Indian snackers.

01 · From festive gifting to daily cup

Wonderful Pistachios, the world’s largest grower and processor of pistachios and distributor of California Pistachios, is running high-impact OOH and print across Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata. Key sites include the Bandra cluster in Mumbai and Golf Course Road in Gurgaon. Digital creators will show pistachios in ordinary, repeatable moments: chai breaks, work desks and evening unwinding. A Blinkit partnership closes the loop by making discovery near-immediate to purchase.

  • OOH and print across six metros, including Bandra and Golf Course Road
  • Creator-led content for chai breaks, work desks and leisure
  • Blinkit partnership for quick-commerce discovery and purchase

02 · Why chai time is the right entry point

According to the Farmley Healthy Snacking Report 2026, evening tea-time is the top snacking occasion across age groups, city tiers and lifestyles. The same report says 86% of Indian snackers consider protein important when choosing snacks. California Pistachios’ six grams of protein per 28-gram serving gives the brand a concrete answer to that preference.

Shail Pancholi, spokesperson for California Pistachios in India, framed the ambition as making pistachios “a more natural part of these everyday occasions,” from chai breaks to work desks to unwinding with a screen.

03 · The marketing take

This is category entry point thinking in action: find a high-frequency ritual, attach the product to it, and sell the moment rather than the nut. By pairing a daily chai-time cue with Blinkit’s fast purchase path, the campaign reduces the gap between craving and trial—useful for a premium snack trying to build habit among consumers used to cheaper fried options.

The next measure of success should be frequency, not just reach. If pistachios become the default chai-time upgrade on enough days, the brand has built a new consumption routine; if not, it has only bought a seasonal bump.
