Tata Mutual Fund teaches investing through Diwali rituals

Diwali is a season of rituals. Tata Mutual Fund is betting those rituals can do the work of a financial advisor.

01 · From kavi sammelan to SIPs

The asset manager has released a Diwali special of its investor-education series, Mehfil-e-Fund. Set in the format of a kavi sammelan, the films bring together poets and performers Amandeep Singh, Priya Malik, Aanchal, Rohit Sharma and Ritwick. Their task is to turn familiar festive behaviour into lessons about money, using humour and verse.

The campaign maps four everyday Diwali moments to core investing ideas.

  • Pre-Diwali cleaning and shared household duties become a way to explain collective financial planning.
  • Assorted boxes of sweets and different types of crackers become a simple picture of diversification.
  • Sharing festive gifts with security guards, delivery executives, sanitation workers and household help becomes a prompt to extend financial awareness beyond one’s own home.
  • The kavi sammelan frame itself gives SIPs, index funds and long-term planning a lighter, more memorable home.

“Investor education becomes more effective when people can relate financial concepts to experiences from their everyday lives,” said Ashish Pawar, chief marketing officer, Tata Asset Management. He added that the series aims to make financial learning accessible and relevant through storytelling people enjoy and remember.

02 · Why familiar rituals work harder than jargon

Mutual fund communication often starts with charts, returns and risk tables. This campaign starts with culture. By borrowing rituals the audience already performs, Tata Mutual Fund shortens the distance between “I don’t understand this” and “I do this every year.” The emotional familiarity of Diwali does the heavy lifting, while the products stay specific.

That matters because investor education has a retention problem. A jargon-heavy explainer may be watched once and forgotten. A cultural analogy gives the viewer a retrieval cue: the next time they see a mixed box of Diwali sweets, the idea of diversification has somewhere to hook.

One detail worth studying is the film about support staff. Rather than a token festive greeting, it uses the moment of giving to widen the conversation to people often left out of financial education. That makes the campaign feel purposeful without stepping away from the brand’s category. The format choice matters too. A kavi sammelan is already an entertainment ritual for many households, so the campaign earns attention before it asks for any investment decision.

03 · What marketing teams can do with this

The move is not to make every campaign festive. It is to find one ritual your audience already performs and place one product idea inside it. Choose a native format, such as poetry or family chores, and let it carry the message instead of decorating a corporate deck. The series runs across Tata Mutual Fund’s social platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X.
