Taboola's DeeperDive hits Motorola lockscreens

Taboola is moving its answer engine from publisher pages to the first screen a smartphone owner sees. Under a new partnership with Motorola, DeeperDive will be built into the lockscreen of select moto g devices, letting users ask questions and explore answers before they unlock the phone.

The rollout will be phased across select moto g smartphones during 2026 and 2027. The first announced markets are the UK, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Mexico and Argentina.

01 · What DeeperDive does

DeeperDive is a generative AI answer surface that leans on publisher content rather than raw model output alone. On supported devices, people can explore sports, entertainment, finance, travel and politics, then follow related stories and topics from the answers they see.

Taboola says the feature has been integrated into digital experiences by publishers including USA TODAY Co., HuffPost UK, BuzzFeed Asia and Bangkok Post since 2025. The Motorola deal extends that logic to the device itself.

  • Accessible from the lockscreen on supported moto g phones
  • Topics: sports, entertainment, finance, travel and politics
  • First markets: UK, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Argentina
  • Rollout runs in phases across 2026 and 2027

02 · Why the lockscreen is the real story

The partnership builds on an existing relationship between Motorola and Taboola around personalised content recommendations. Shifting to the lockscreen changes the journey: discovery can begin before an app, browser or feed is opened.

Adam Singolda, CEO of Taboola, said: “DeeperDive creates a new way for people to explore their interests and get useful answers informed by trusted publisher content.”

For Indian brand leaders, the announcement is a preview of where content discovery is heading. India is not among the first announced markets, but answer surfaces are expanding quickly from search pages to native and device-level placements. The questions consumers ask are already intent signals; when those questions surface on a lockscreen, the brand that has a clear answer can appear at the start of the consideration journey.

For publishers, it also changes the distribution equation: value may shift from the click to the citation, where the content behind the answer becomes the asset worth watching.

03 · What brand teams can do

Treat this as a new content format rather than another ad placement. Audit the questions your category buyers actually ask, then publish short, quotable answers that an answer engine can pick up. Monitor referral traffic, branded search and mention patterns once such surfaces scale in your markets.

The marketing take: answer engines can now meet consumers before the feed even loads.
