Orient Electric takes 3-in-1 lights to 11 airports

Orient Electric is putting lighting at the centre of a new integrated campaign and betting on a simple benefit: one fixture should give a home three usable shades of white. The CKA Birla Group company has launched The Right Light to promote its 3-in-1 lighting solutions, which let consumers switch between Warm White, Natural White and Cool White in a single light.

The launch film brings together former India cricket captain MS Dhoni and creator Kusha Kapila in playful banter. The everyday conversational format keeps the message on lighting’s role in contemporary homes rather than on product mechanics. The campaign is running across digital and social media, outdoor advertising and airport activations at 11 airports, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata.

01 · What 3CCT changes for the buyer

Orient Electric’s executives are treating lighting as a strategic growth pillar, not a commodity line. Ravindra Singh Negi, MD & CEO, said lighting is “a strategic growth pillar” for the company and that understanding how consumers use light will shape product innovation. Anika Agarwal, EVP and strategic business unit head for lighting, said the company’s ambition is to build a leading lighting brand by pairing consumer insight with technology-led development. She pointed to 3CCT as an example: three colour options in a single light, positioned around choice, functionality and flexibility.

For a shopper, that changes the decision. Instead of choosing between a warm-white or cool-white fitting at the counter, a single fixture can move across rooms and daily activities. The category benefit is adaptability; the selling job is making that adaptability easy to see and remember.

02 · What the rollout says about the strategy

The media plan mixes immediate reach with environments where a product story has time to land.

  • Product story: one light, three colour options, positioned for different spaces and tasks.
  • Media story: digital and social, plus airport activations across 11 airports and outdoor in key markets.
  • Talent story: Dhoni carries familiarity and trust; Kapila brings a lighter, everyday voice.

Outdoor is planned across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Chandigarh Tricity and Ludhiana. The airport layer is significant because dwell-time audiences can absorb a functional message without needing a long ad.

03 · What marketers should watch

The campaign is a useful model for selling function as a felt benefit. Orient is not asking consumers to understand colour temperature; it is showing that one light can shift with their day. That is the right translation for a low-involvement category: lead with the situation, not the spec.

The open question is conversion. If retail displays, dealer conversations and shorter social edits do not demonstrate the three modes clearly, awareness may not turn into the more premium, considered purchase Orient Electric is chasing. The next chapter to watch is less about the film and more about the last three feet where lighting is actually bought.

Marketing take

A feature becomes memorable when you sell the situation it changes, not the specification it carries.
